Nordic Podcast Academy opens in Sound Hub Denmark
September 10, 2019
A number of partners have joined forces to establish a new academy for the booming podcast industry – and the location is Struer, City of Sound, Denmark. One of the partners is the Danish School of Media and Journalism, and the other one of the authors of a new book about podcasting.
The partnership includes experienced radio and podcast professionals Dorte Palle and Tor Arnbjørn,- who just recently published a book about podcasting – the Danish School of Media and Journalism, Sound Hub Denmark and Struer municipality, the City of Sound
’Nordic Podcast Academy’ is the name, which also indicates sky-high ambitions to deliver talent development and formal education in podcasting with an international reach and appeal.
Heading up the activities is the former DR-manager Dorte Palle, who has a past as host, producer and manager in the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR). Today she is self-employed podcaster and consultant.
Denmark has a long and strong tradition in telling stories on air, but we have never had a formal educational program or talent selection dedicated to the podcasting media. I hope we can gather passionate podcasters also outside Denmark in an innovative and creative environment buzzing with great sound,
says Dorte Palle.
To start with the academy will provide a training course for communicators and journalists, who want to produce own podcasts. In addition to this, it will offer a wide range of podcast courses, and as a special initiative an intensive talent camp for selected talents.
The background for the cooperation is the increased interest in sound and podcasting, which has almost exploded over the past years in both numbers of listeners and producers.
Interest in podcasting and related competences is just as significant in Norway and Sweden, and we want to gather all capabilities and learn from each other. Audio programs or on-demand radio have come to stay, and we see many opportunities for this cooperation,
explains Trine Nielsen, headmaster of Denmark’s School of Media and Journalism.
The framework for the new podcast academy is the Sound Hub Denmark facilities. Here we offer an innovative environment for sound established in the former R&D department of Bang & Olufsen. The Nordic Podcasting Academy is a great initiative for creative people interested in sound and media, and a perfect addition to the activities that have started up in these exceptional facilities for sound innovation. Sound Hub Denmark houses unique test facilities, several international startups in sound and acoustics, the SoundTech Accelerator Program for start-ups focusing on sound – and now this new educational environment for sound communication is joining in.
This initiative is a natural part of Struer’s ambition to become an epicentre for sound, and the Nordic Podcast Academy is going to make Struer the preferred place to go for both experienced podcasters and future talent. We also see this as a strengthening of the development environment surrounding Sound Hub Denmark. So, we have high expectation to this new initiative,
states City Mayor Niels Viggo Lynghøj.
The first activities in the Nordic Podcast Academy will start-up in fall 2019, and the diploma courses start-up from Spring 2020.
